Commercial Electrical
E-Tech Masters is an ESA licensed electrical contractor working with businesses, property owners and project teams across Toronto and the GTA. From new commercial installations to renovations and upgrades of existing spaces, we plan and complete the electrical work your project needs.
Why E-Tech Masters
Commercial electrical work rarely looks the same from one job to the next. One project is a new installation in an empty unit; another is an upgrade to a space that has to keep operating; another is a renovation that changes how an existing area is laid out and used.
Whatever the starting point, the work comes down to the same questions: what the space needs to do, what the existing electrical system can support, and what has to change to get there. We work through those questions with you before work begins, so the electrical scope reflects the real requirements of the property and the project.
Typical project types
On construction and renovation projects, electrical work runs through several stages. Rough-in wiring goes in while walls and ceilings are open, circuits are laid out for the lighting and power the space will need, and final connections are made as the space takes shape.
In an existing building, new work also has to tie into the electrical system that’s already there. That means understanding the current setup before making changes, and planning new circuits and connections so they integrate properly.
Because electrical work touches so much of a project, its scope needs to line up with the rest of the work, including layout decisions, other trades and the order in which the project is built.
Scope can include
Common fit-out electrical changes
When a commercial space is built out for a new tenant, renovated, or prepared for a different use, the electrical layout usually has to change with it. Walls, counters, workstations and equipment move, and power and lighting need to follow.
Fit-out electrical work is planned around the new layout and how the space will be used, while working within what the existing electrical system can support. Where the project requires it, that can include changes to panels or electrical distribution.
Most commercial electrical work comes down to getting reliable power to the right places. In plain terms, that usually involves:
Wiring for new spaces, additions and revised layouts, installed to suit how the space will be used.
The circuits that feed general lighting and receptacles throughout a space, laid out so loads are distributed sensibly.
Circuits that serve a single piece of equipment or load, so it has the capacity it needs without affecting other circuits.
New and relocated receptacles placed where the people and equipment in the space actually need power.
Connections between the electrical system and the equipment, fixtures and devices it supplies.
Matching the electrical supply to each piece of equipment's requirements before it is connected.
Capacity & distribution
Adding equipment, reconfiguring a space or changing how a property is used can increase electrical demand. Before new circuits are added, it’s important to know what the existing panel and distribution can support.
Depending on the loads and the project’s requirements, an assessment may show that the current system can accommodate the work, or that changes or upgrades to panels and distribution are needed. Not every project requires an upgrade; the assessment is what determines it.
What we assess
Lighting
Lighting often changes during a renovation or fit-out: new fixture locations to suit a revised layout, replacement of outdated fixtures, or added lighting where a space needs it. Each change has an electrical side, including wiring to new locations, the circuits that supply them and the switching or controls that operate them.
Many businesses also use a renovation as an opportunity to move to more energy-efficient lighting. We handle the electrical installation that goes with those changes.
Equipment
Commercial equipment often needs more than a standard receptacle. Depending on its electrical requirements, a piece of equipment may need a dedicated circuit or a specific type of electrical connection.
We review the equipment’s electrical requirements, check them against the existing system and plan the circuit and connection accordingly, so the equipment gets the supply it needs without overloading other circuits.
For general contractors, business owners and project decision-makers, the electrical work has to fit the job. Electrical scope affects, and depends on, other parts of a project, so it’s planned with the bigger picture in view.
Electrical work is planned against the overall scope, so what's installed matches what the project requires.
Access, building construction and the condition of the space all shape how the electrical work is carried out.
New work is planned around the existing electrical system and what it can support.
Electrical work needs to be sequenced alongside other trades and stages of the project.
If you’re planning a project, discussing the electrical requirements early makes it easier to plan the rest of the work around them.
